BUREAU OF NARCOTICS Salaries and expenses : For expenses to enforce the Act of Decem- ber 17, 1914 (U . S . C ., title 26, sec . 211), as amended by the Revenue Act. of 1918 (U. S. C., title 26, sees. 691-708), the Act approved February 9, 1909, as amended by the Act of May 26, 1922 (U .S.C., tit le 21 , see s . 171-184), known as the Narcotic Drugs Import and Export Act, pursuant to the Act of March 3, 1927 (U . S . C ., title 5, sees. 281-281e), and the Act of June 14, 1930 (U . S. C., title 5, sees. 282-282c), including the employment of executive officers, attorneys, agen ts, insp ectors, chemists , superv isors, c lerks, m essenger s, and other necessary employees in the field and in the Bureau of Narcotics in t he Distr ict of C olumbia, to be a ppointed as auth orized b y law ; the se curing of evid ence of viola tions of the Acts

cal analyses made by others than employees of the United States ; the purchase of such supplies, equipment, mechanical devices, books, and such other expenditures as may be necessary in the several field offices ; cost incurred by officers and employees of the Bureau of Nar- cotics in the seizure, storage, and disposition of property under the internal-revenue laws when the same is disposed of under section 3460, Revised Statutes (U. S. C., title. 26, sec. 1193 1) ; purchase (not to exceed $10,000), exchange, hire, maintenance, repair, and opera- ti on of mo tor-prop elled or horse-d rawn pas senger-c arrying vehicles when necessary for official use in field work ; purchase of arms and ammunition, and for rental of necessary quarters in the District of Columbia and elsewhere ; in all, $1,275,000, of which amount not to exceed $187,664 may be expended for personal services in the District of Columbia : Provided, That the Secretary of the Treasury may auth orize th e use by narcoti c agents of moto r vehicl es confi scated under the provisions of the Act of March 3, 1925 (U . S . C ., title 27, sec . 43), as amended, and to pay the cost of acquisition, maintenance, repair, and operation thereof : Provided further, That not exceeding $10,000 may be expended for the collection and dissemination of information and appeal for law observance and law enforcement, in cludi ng cos t of p rintin g, pu rchase of newspapers, and other necessary expenses in connection therewith and not exceeding $1,500 for attendance at meetings concerned with the work of the Bureau of Narcoti cs : P rov ided fu rth er, Th at moneys expended fr om this a ppr opr iat ion for the pu rch ase of narcotics and subsequently re covered shall be reimbur sed to t he appro priation for enf orcement of the Narcotic Acts current at the time of the deposit .
