For maintenance and instruction of blind children of the District of Columbia, in Maryland, or some other State, under a contract to be entered into by the Commissioners, $11,500 : Provided, That all expenditures under this appropriation shall be made under the supervision of the Board of Education . for- For Americanization work and instruction of foreigners of all ages in both day and night classes, and teachers and janitors of Americanization schools may also be teachers and janitors of the day schools , $8,800 . For contingent and other necessary expenses, including books, equipment, and supplies, $600 . For carry ing out t he provi sions of the Act of June 1 9, 1934 (48 Stat ., p. 1125), entitled "An Act providing educational oppor- tunities for the children of soldiers, sailors, and marines who were killed in action or died during the World War", $3,000 . COMM UNITY CEN TER DEPAR TMENT For personal services of the director, general secretaries, and commu nity secre tarie s in accor dance with the Act a pprov ed Ju ne 4, 1924 (43 Stat ., pp . 369, 370) ; clerks and part-time employees, includ- ing janitors on account of meetings of parent-teacher associa tions and other activities, and contingent expenses, equipment, supplies, and lightin g fixtures , $75,000 . CARE OF BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS For personal services, including care of smaller buildings and rented rooms at a rate not to exceed $96 per annum for the ca re of each schoolroom, other than those occupied by atypical or ung raded classes, for which service an amount not to exceed $120 per annum may b e all owed, $937 ,730 . MI SCELL ANEOU S For the maintenance of schools for tubercular and crippled pupils, $8,0 00 . For transportation for pupils attending schools for tubercular pupils, sight-conservation pupils, and crippled pupils, $22,000 : Provided, That expenditures for street-car and bus fares from th is fund shall not be subject to the general limitations on the use of street-car and bus fares covered by this Act . For purchase and repair of furniture, tools, machinery, material, and b ooks, and appar atus to be used in c onnec tion with instr uctio n in manual and vocational training, and incidental expenses co n- nected therewith, $64,000, to be immediately available . For fuel, gas, and electric light and power, $325,000. For contingent expenses, including United States flags, furniture and repairs of same, stationery, ice, paper towels, and other neces- sary items not otherwise provided for, and including not exceed- ing $8,000 for books of reference and periodicals, not exceeding $1,500 for replacement of pianos at an average cost of not to exceed $300 each, not to exceed $1,000 for the purchase of one grand pi ano for t he Armstr ong High School, not exce eding $6, 800 for labor ; in all, $124,500, to be immediately available, of which not to exceed $1,200 may be expended for tabulating school census cards either by contract or by day labor as the Commissioners may
