POST OFFICE CONTI NGENT EXP ENSES OF THE SENATE For purchase, exchange, driving, maintenance, and operation of an automobile for the Vice President, $4,000. For reporting the debates and proceedings of th e Senate, payable in equal monthly installments, $61,094, of which $754 shall be imme- dia tely avail able . For services in cleaning, repairing, and v arnis hing furniture, $2,000 . For expenses of inquiries and investigations ordered by the Senate, including compensation to stenographers of committees, at such rate as may be fixed by the Committee to Audit and Control the Con- tingent Expenses of the Senate, but not exceeding 25 cents per hun- dred words, $150,000 : Provided, That no part of this appropriation shall be expended for services, personal, professional, or otherwise, in exces s of the rate of $3,600 per annum : Provided further, Th at no part of this appropriation shall be expended for per diem and subsistence expenses except in accordance with the provisions of the Subsistence Expense Act of 1926, approved June 3, 1926, as amended . For payment of one-half of the salaries and other expenses of the Joint Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation as authorized by law, $27,000 . For folding speeches and pamphlets, at a rate not exceeding $1 per thou sand, $10,000 .
