AN ACT [S .102] To authori ze the coin age of 50-c ent pieces in commemor ation of th e seventy- fifth [Public, No . 16 0]

anniversary of the Battle of Antietam . Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States o f America in Congress assembled, That in commem- oration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Battle of Antietam there shall be coined at one mint only of the United States to be designated by the Director of the Mint not to exceed fifty thousand silver 50-cent pieces of standard size, weight, and composition and of a special appropriate single design to be fixed by the Director of the Mint, with the approval of the Secretary of the Treasury, but the United States shall not be subject to the expense of making the necessary dies and other preparations for this coinage . SEO. 2. The coins herein authorized shall bear the date 1937, irrespective of the year in which they are minted or issued, shall be legal tender in any payment to the amount of their face value, and shall be issued only upon the request of the Washington County Historical Society of Hagerstown, Maryland, upon payment by it of the par value of such coins, but not less than twenty-five thousand such coins shall be issued to it at any one time and no such coins shall be issued after the expiration of one year after the date of enactment of this Act . Such coins may be disposed of at par or at a premium by such Washington County Historical Society of Hagers- t own, Maryland, subject to the approval of the Director of the Mint, and the net proceeds shall be used by it in defraying the expenses i ncidenta l and ap propriate to the commemor ation of such eve nt . SEc . 3 . All laws now in force relating to the subsidiary silver coins of the United States and the coining or striking of the same, regulating and guarding the process of coinage, providing for the purchase of material, and for the transportation, distribution, and redemption of coins, for the prevention of debasement or counter- feiting, for the security of the coins, or for any other purposes, whether such laws are penal or otherwise, shall, so far as applicable, a pply to the coinage herein au thorized . [CHAPTER 3811 Be it enacted by the Senate and House o f Representatives o f the U nited States o f America i n Congress a ssembled, That the provi- sion of section 2324 of the Revised Statutes of the United States, which requires on each mining claim located, and until a patent has been issued therefor, not less than $100 worth of labor to be per- formed or improvements aggregating such amount to be made each year, be, and the same is hereby, suspended as to all mining claims in the United States during the year beginning at 12 o'clock meridian July 1, 1936, and ending at 12 o'clock meridian July 1, 1937 : Provided, That the provisions of this Act shall not apply in the case of any claimant not entitled to exemption from the pay- ment of a Federal income tax for the taxable year 1936 : Provided further, That every claimant of any such mining claim, in order to obtain the benefits of this Act, shall file, or cause to be filed, in the office where the location notice or certificate is recorded, on or before 12 o'clock meridian July 1, 1937, a notice of his desire to hold said
