52 STAT.] 75TH CONG., 3D SESS. - CH. 464 -JUNE 16, 1938 means in the city of Washington and elsewhere, $161,735; and the Secretary of Agriculture shall prescribe the form of the annual finan- cial statement required under the above Acts, ascertain whether the expenditures are in accordance with their provisions, coordinate the research work of the Department of Agriculture and coordinate the research work of the Department with that of the State agricultural colleges and experiment stations in the lines authorized in said Acts, and make report thereon to Congress. Insular experiment stations: To enable the Secretary of Agricul- ture to establish and maintain an agricultural experiment station in Puerto Rico, including the erection of buildings, the preparation, illustration, and distribution of reports and bulletins, $67,245: Pro- vided, That the Secretary of Agriculture may, at his discretion, trans- fer such property and equipment, including the library, of the Hawaii Experiment Station, formerly maintained by the Depart- ment of Agriculture, as he may deem necessary and advisable to the experiment station of the University of Hawaii, which has been con- ducted jointly and in collaboration with the former Federal station under the Act of May 16, 1928 (7 U. S . C . 386-386b); and the Secre- tary of Agriculture is authorized to sell such products as are obtained on the land belonging to the agricultural experiment station in Puerto Rico, and the amount obtained from the sale thereof shall be covered into the Treasury of the United States as miscellaneous receipts. In all, salaries and expenses, $228,980. Total, Office of Experiment Stations, $6,770,230, of which amount not to exceed $150,105 may be expended for personal services in the District of Columbia, and not to exceed $750 shall be available for the purchase of motor-propelled and horse-drawn passenger-carrying vehicles necessary in the conduct of field work outside the District of Columbia. SPECIAL RESEARCH FUND, DEPARTMENT OF AGRI- CULTURE For enabling the Secretary of Agriculture to carry into effect the provisions of an Act entitled "An Act to provide for research into basic laws and principles relating to agriculture and to provide for the further development of cooperative agricultural extension work and the more complete endowment and support of land-grant col- leges", approved June 29, 1935 (7 U. S. C . 427, 427b, 427c, 427f); for administration of the provisions of section 5 of the said Act, and for special research work, including the planning, programming, and coordination of such research, to be conducted by such agencies of the Department of Agriculture as the Secretary of Agriculture may designate or establish, and to which he may make allotments from this fund, including the employment of persons and means in the District of Columbia and elsewhere, and the purchase, mainte- nance, repair, and operation of motor-propelled and horse-drawn passenger-carrying vehicles necessary in the conduct of field work outside the District of Columbia, $1,400,000.
