[CHAPTER 172] AN ACT To authorize the construction of certain vessels for the Coast and Geodetic Sur- vey, Department of Commerce, and for other purposes. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That there is hereby authorized to be appropriated not to exceed $1,425,000 to be expended by the Secretary of Commerce for the construction of one main surveying ship of not over one thousand five hundred tons light displacement tonnage and of one auxiliary surveying vessel of not over one hundred and twenty-five tons light displacement tonnage, including purchase or construction of complete equipment and outfit and including cost of preparation of plans, specifications and inspection during construction, said ships to be designed and equipped for Coast and Geodetic Survey duties in Alaska. Approved, June 2, 1939. [CHAPTER 173] AN ACT Providing for the transfusion of blood by members and former members of the Military Establishment, and by employees of the United States Government. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 1 of the Act of February 9, 1927, entitled "An Act relating to the trans- fusion of blood by members of the Military Establishment" (U. S. C., title 24, sec. 30) is hereby amended so as to read as follows: "That any person in the Military Establishment, or who has been a member of the Military Establishment, and any employee of the United States Government, who shall furnish blood from his or her veins for trans- fusion to the veins of a member or former member of the Military Establishment who is a patient in a Government hospital shall be entitled to be paid therefor such reasonable sum, not to exceed $50, as may be determined by the head of the hospital concerned, from public funds available for the operation of such hospital: Provided2 That expenditures heretofore made to persons in Government service for blood furnished from his or her veins for transfusion to the veins of an official patient in a Government hospital are hereby authorized and validated.
