[CHAPTER 302] AN ACT To amend section 36 of the Criminal Code. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 36 of the Criminal Code (35 Stat. 1096; U. S . C., title 18, sec. 87) be, and it hereby is, amended to read as follows: "SEC. 36. Whoever shall steal, embezzle, or knowingly apply to his own use, or unlawfully sell, convey, or dispose of any ordnance, arms, ammunition, clothing, subsistence, stores, money, or other property furnished or to be used for the military or naval service, shall be punished as prescribed in section 35 (C) of the Criminal Code (U. S. C., title 18, sec. 82)." Approved November 22, 1943. [CHAPTER 303] AN ACT To amend an Act entitled "An Act to dispense with unnecessary renewals of oaths of office by civilian employees of the executive departments and inde- pendent establishments", approved August 14, 1937. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Act entitled "An Act to dispense with unnecessary renewals of oaths of office by civilian employees of the executive departments and inde- pendent establishments", approved August 14, 1937 (50 Stat. 640), be amended to read as follows: "That civilian employees of the executive departments and inde- pendent establishments of the United States and employees of the District of Columbia who, upon original appointment, have sub- scribed to the oath of office required by section 1757 of the Revised Statutes, shall not be required to renew the said oath because of any change in status so long as their services are continuous in the depart- ment or independent establishment in which employed or in the gov- ernment of the District of Columbia, unless in the opinion of the head of the department or independent establishment or the Com- missioners of the District of Columbia the public interests require such renewal."
