Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the following sums are appropriated, out of any money in the Treasury not other- wise appropriated, for the Executive Office and sundry independent executive bureaus, boards, commissions, and offices, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1945, namely: 361 June 27, 1944 Il. R. 4070] [Public Law 358] Independent Offices Appropriation Act, 1945. TITLE I EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT COMPENSATION OF THE PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT For compensation of the President of the United States, $75,000. For compensation of the Vice President of the United States, $15,000. ' T HE WHITE HOUSE OFFICE Salaries: For personal services in the office of the President, includ- ing the Secretary to the President, two additional secretaries to the President and six administrative assistants to the President at $10,000 each; $256,431: Provided, That employees of the executive depart- ments and other establishments of the executive branch of the Govern- ment may be detailed from time to time to the office of the President of the United States for such temporary assistance as may be deemed necessary. Contingent expenses: For contingent expenses of The White House Office, including stationery, record books, telegrams, telephones, books for library, furniture and carpets for offices, automobiles, expenses of garage, including labor, special services, and miscellaneous items to be expended in the discretion of the President, $50,000. For printing and binding, $2,700. Traveling expenses: For traveling and official entertainment expenses of the President of the United States, to be expended in his discretion and accounted for on his certificate solely, $30,000. EXECUTIVE MANSION AND GROUNDS For the care, maintenance, repair and alteration, refurnishing improvement, heating and lighting, including electric power and fixtures of the Executive Mansion and the Executive Mansion grounds, and traveling expenses, to be expended as the President may determine, notwithstanding the provisions of any other Act, $150,000. BUREAU OF THE BUDGET Salaries and expenses: For all expenses necessary for the work of the Bureau of the Budget, including personal services in the District of Columbia and elsewhere, contract stenographic reporting services, traveling expenses, including expenses of attendance at meetings when necessary in furthering the work of the Bureau of the Budget, lawbooks, books of reference, newspapers and periodicals, teletype news service (not exceeding $900), maintenance, repair, and operation of three passenger-carrying automobiles for official use, and not to exceed $35,000 for temporary employment of persons or organizations Temporary assist- ance.
