Making appropriations for the Legislative Branch for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1946, and for other purposes. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the follow- ing sums are appropriated, out of any money in the Treasury not other- wise appropriated, for the Legislative Branch for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1946, namely: SENATE SALARIES AND MILEAGE OF SENATORS For compensation of Senators, $960,000. For mileage of the President of the Senate and of Senators, $51,000. For compensation of officers, clerks, messengers, and others: OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT For compensation of the Vice President of the United States, $15,000. Salaries: For clerical assistance to the Vice President, at rates of compensation to be fixed by him, $15,420. CHAPLAIN Chaplain of the Senate, $1,680. OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY Salaries: Secretary of the Senate, including compensation as dis- bursing officer of salaries of Senators and of contingent fund of the Senate, $8,000; Chief Clerk, who shall perform the duties of reading clerk, $5,500 and $1,500 additional so long as the position is held by the present incumbent; financial clerk, $5,000 and $2,000 additional so long as the position is held by the present incumbent; assistant financial clerk, $4,500; Parliamentarian, $5,000 and $1,500 additional so long as the position is held by the present incumbent; Journal clerk, $4,000 and $1,000 additional so long as the position is held by the present incumbent; principal clerk, $4,000; legislative clerk, $4,000 and $1,500 additional so long as the position is held by the present incumbent; enrolling clerk, $4,000; printing clerk, $3,540 and $460 additional so long as the position is held by the present incum- bent; chief bookkeeper, $3,600 and $600 additional so long as the position is held by the present incumbent; librarian, $3,600; executive clerk, $8,180 and $420 additional so long as the position is held by Additionalsecurity. The said Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System may at any time call upon a Federal Reserve bank for additional security to protect the Federal Reserve notes issued to it."
