Salaries and expenses, Division of Labor Standards: For salaries and other expenses, including purchase and distribution of reports, and of material for informational exhibits, in connection with the promotion of health, safety, employment stabilization, and amicable industrial relations for labor and industry, $145,763. Salaries and expenses, safety and health program (national defense): For all expenses necessary to enable the Secretary of Labor to conduct a program of safety and health among employees engaged in national defense industries, including personal services in the Dis- trict of Columbia and elsewhere, and other items otherwise properly chargeable to the appropriations under the Department of Labor for contingent expenses, traveling expenses, and printing and binding, $149215. Afttendne at con- The appropriation under this title for traveling expenses shall be available for expenses of attendance of cooperating officials and con- sultants at conferences concerned with the work of the Division of Labor Standards when called by the Division with the written approval of the Secretary of Labor, and shall be available also in an amount not to exceed $2,000 for expenses of attendance at meetings related to the work of the Division of Labor Standards when incurred on the written authority of the Secretary of Labor. Commissioners of Conciliation: For expenses necessary to enable the Secretary of Labor to exercise the authority vested in him by section 8 of the Act creating the Department of Labor (5 U. S. C . 5u. s. c. 619. 611), including newspapers, books of reference, and periodicals, and not to exceed $78,000 for personal services in the District of Columbia, $445,300. Commissioners of Conciliation (national defense): For all expenses necessary to enable the Secretary of Labor to perform conciliation services in situations growing out of employment in industries under the national defense program, including personal services in the Dis- trict of Columbia and elsewhere, and other items otherwise properly chargeable to the appropriations under the Department of Labor for contingent expenses, traveling expenses, and printing and binding, $1,786,200. Attendanceatmeet- The appropriation in this title for traveling expenses shall be avail- able in an amount not to exceed $2,000 for expenses of attendance at meetings, conferences, or conventions concerned with labor and industrial relations when incurred on the written authority of the Secretary of Labor. BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS Pot, p. 0o. Salaries and expenses: For personal services including temporary statistical clerks, stenographers, and typists in the District of Co- lumbia, and including also experts and temporary assistants for field service outside of the District of Columbia; purchase of periodicals, documents, envelopes? price quotations, and reports and materials for reports and bulletins of said Bureau; $1,104,560, of which amount not to exceed $995,000 may be expended for the salary of the Com- missioner and other personal services in the District of Columbia.
