W Be it enacted, &·c., That the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars, if so much be necessary, be applied by the Secretary of the Treasury to Appropriation the erection, or purchase of a United States’ Marine Hospital for the f°"h° °.’°°°l°¤ sick and disabled seamen, at Charleston, South Carolina; and also to giglmginc h°°° indemnify the City Council of Charleston for the damages which they i ` have sustained, from being obliged to provide a building or building for such sick and disabled seamen, as would have been entitled to relief from the Marine Hospital Fund, in consequence of the failure of the Treasury Department to furnish the amount of fifteen thousand dollars, for the erection of a Marine Hospital according to the terms of a contract entered into in the year one thousand eight hundred and four, between the then Secretary of the Treasury, and the said City Council. Sec. 2. Crum. CIII. —An Act for the relief of Jonathan Taylor, and the rqwesentativee MW 20» 1830- qf James Mowison and Charles Wilkins. W Bc it enacted, ¢§~c., That the Secretary of the Treasury pay, out of any money not otherwise appropriated, to Jonathan Taylor, and the re- Payment {0, presentatives of James Morrison and Charles Wilkins, twelve thousand their improve; sixty-one dollars and ninety-nine cents, in the proportion of one-third to ;';f::$,:s°“°m each, for the improvements made by the said Taylor, Morrison, and ' Wilkins, at the salt works, in what is now the state of Illinois, under a lease between the United States and them, dated on the Hlth of February, one thousand eight hundred and ten; which amount was liquidated by the President of the United States, on the second of June, one thousand eight hundred and twenty; and to be discharged by surrendering to said lessees, kettles of that value, at said works, but which the state of Illinois has declined to surrender, claiming to own them by the cession of said works by the United States to the state of Illinois. Cazenove, Wil- Commissionliam H. Millar, Charles Bennett, Edmund I. Lee, Colin Auld, Henry fggegggtggafdw Dangerfneld, George Brent and Jonathan Bucher, be, and they are here- ,,c,,p,,,,n,_ by, appointed Commissioners, any three of whom shall be competent to act, to receive subscriptions to the capital stock of the company hereinafter incorporated. The said Commissioners shall cause books to be Bookubb, opened at such times and places as they shall think fit, under the ma- opened. Hagement of such persons as they shall appoint for receiving subscriptions to the capital stock of the said Company, which subscriptions may be made either in person or by power of attorney; and notice shall be given by the said Commissioners of the time and place of opening the books. Sec. 2.
