Leasing of grazing lands: For leasing State, county, or privately owned lands in accordance with the provisions of the Act of June 23, 43TU. S.C. § 315 m-1 1938 (52 Stat. 1033), $7,500: Provided,That expenditures hereunder shall not exceed the aggregate receipts covered into the Treasury in accordance with section 4 of said Act. Appropriations herein made for the Grazing Service for "Salaries and expenses", "Range improvements", and "Fire fighting", shall be available for the hire, maintenance, and operation of aircraft. GENERAL LAND OFFICE Salaries and expenses: For personal services in the District of Columbia, including one clerk who shall be authorized by the Presi- dent to sign land patents and for all necessary expenses not otherwise provided for in the administration of the public-land laws under the supervision of the Commissioner of the General Land Office, includ- ing travel expenses, printing and binding, advertising, production of maps and official plats of survey, and for hearings or other pro- ceedings, $1,000,000. Surveying public lands: For surveys and resurveys of public lands, examination of surveys heretofore made and reported to be defective or fraudulent, inspecting mineral deposits, coal fields, and timber districts, making fragmentary surveys, and such other surveys or examinations as may be required for identification of lands for pur- poses of evidence in any suit or proceeding in behalf of the United States, under the supervision of the Commissioner of the General Land Office and direction of the Secretary, $550,000, including pur- chase (not to exceed three), operation and maintenance of motor- Expenditures for propelled passenger-carrying vehicles: Provided,That this appropria- surveys. tion may be expended for surveys made under the supervision of the Commissioner of the General Land Office, but when expended for surveys that would not otherwise be chargeable hereto it shall be reimbursed from the applicable appropriation, fund, or special deposit. Salaries and expenses, branch of field examination: For salaries and expenses of field examinations, classification of lands, and inves- tigations required in the administration and execution of the public land laws, and the protection of the public lands and their resources from trespass, including purchase of eighteen and operation and maintenance of passenger-carrying automobiles, $392,600. Salaries and expenses of district land offices: For all necessary expenses incident to the operation and maintenance of district land offices and the disposal, supervision, and management of the public lands, including operation and maintenance of motor-propelled passenger-carrying vehicles, $287,126: Provided, That no expenses chargeable to the Government shall be incurred by registers in the conduct of local land offices except upon previous specific authorization by the Commissioner of the General Land Office. Payments to States. Payments to States of 5 per centum of proceeds from sales of public lands: For payment to the several States of 5 per centum of the net proceeds of sales of public lands lying within their limits, for the purpose of education or of making public roads and improve- ments, $2,500: Provided,That expenditures hereunder shall not exceed 48 stat.l . the aggregate receipts covered into the Treasury in accordance with pot, p8.89 . section 4 of the Permanent Appropriation Repeal Act, 1934.
