SIGNAL CORPS ALASKA COMMUNICATION SYSTEM Report to Congres- sional Appropriation Committees. Additional person- nel. Limitation on ex- penditures. Report to Congress. Purchase of motor vehicles, motorboats, and aircraft. Attendance at inter- national engineering eonferences. Alaska Communication System: For expenses necessary for the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the Alaska Communica- tion System, including purchase of two passenger motor vehicles, $1,804,000, to remain available until the close of the fiscal year 1950, and in addition not to exceed 15 per centum of the fiscal year 1949 receipts of the Alaska Communication System may be merged with and used for the purposes of this appropriation: Provided, That a report of receipts and disbursements under this limitation shall be made quarterly to the Appropriation Committees of the Congress. CORPS OF ENGINEERS RIVERS AND HARBORS AND FLOOD CONTROL To be immediately available and to be expended under the direction of the Secretary of the Army and the supervision of the Chief of Engineers, and to remain available until expended: Provided, That the services of such additional technical and clerical personnel as the Secretary of the Army may deem necessary may be employed only in the Office of the Chief of Engineers, to carry into effect the various appropriations for rivers and harbors and flood control, surveys and preparation for and the consideration of river and harbor and flood- control estimates and bills, to be paid from such appropriations: Pro- vided further, That the expenditures on this account for the fiscal year 1949 shall not exceed $1,250,000, and the Secretary of the Army shall each year, in the Budget, report to Congress the number of persons so employed, their duties, and the amount paid to each: Providedfurther, That the various appropriations for rivers and harbors and flood control may be used for the purchase, in the fiscal year 1949, of five hundred passenger motor vehicles (of which three hundred and fifty- six shall be for replacement only) and ten motorboats, and the purchase (not to exceed seven), maintenance, repair, and operation of aircraft: Providedfurther,That not to exceed $16,000 of the sums appropriated herein may be used to pay the expenses of Corps of Engineers repre- sentatives to three international engineering conferences to be held in Europe during the calendar year 1948. 1020 [62 STAT.
