AN ACT To amend the Act of July 8, 1943 (57 Stat. 388), entitled "An Act to authorize the Secretary of Agriculture to adjust titles to lands acquired by the United States which are subject to his administration, custody, or control".

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Act approved July 8, 1943 (57 Stat. 388), is hereby amended by striking out the words "within ten years and inserting in lieu thereof "within twenty years". CHAPTER 73

AN ACT To amend the District of Columbia Teachers' Salary Act of 1947.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 16 of the District of Columbia Teachers' Salary Act of 1947, as amended, is amended further by renumbering section 16 as "SEC. 16. (a) " and by adding thereto the following new subsection: " (b) Notwithstanding any law or regulation to the contrary, the Board of Education, on the written recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, may employ not more than fifteen retired members of the armed services of the United States as teachers of military science and tactics in the public high schools of the District of Columbia, and such teachers so employed shall be entitled to compensation in accordance with the salary schedule in this Act, in addition to their retired pay and allowances." CHAPTER 74

AN ACT To authorize and direct the Connnissioners of the District of Columbia to make such studies and investigations deemed necessary concerning- the location and construction of a bridge over the Potomac Kiver, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That it is hereby declared that the free circulation of traffic across the Potomac River between Virginia and a point within the District of Columbia is a Federal and regional problem, the benefits of which will accrue to the public generally as well as to the citizens of the District of Columbia and of the States of Maryland and Virginia and is necessary to the health, safety, and welfare of the general public; that a bridge at this location will also provide for the free movement of all kinds of traffic between Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland; that a
