AN ACT To provide for a temporary increase in the public debt limit. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That, during the period beginning on July 1, 1956, and ending on June 30, 1957, the public debt limit set forth in the first sentence of section 21 of the Second Liberty Bond Act, as amended, shall be temporarily increased by $3,000,000,000. CHAPTER 537

AN ACT To continue the effectiveness of the Act of December 2, 1942, as amended, and the Act of July 28, 1945, as amended, relating to war-risk hazard and detention benefits until July 1, 1957. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 201 of the Act of December 2, 1942 (ch. 668, 56 Stat. 1033), as amended, is further amended by deleting the words "July 1, 1956" and inserting in lieu thereof "July 1, 1957^. SEC. 2. Section 5(b) of the Act of July 28, 1945 (ch. 328, 59 Stat. 505), as amended, is further amended by deleting the words "July 1, 1956" and inserting in lieu thereof "July 1, 1957". Approved July 9, 1956.
