For additional amounts for appropriations to the Public Health Service for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1956, as follows: "Assistance to States, general", $11,000; and "Hospitals and medical care", $268,500. For additional amounts for appropriations to the Public Health Service, as follows: "Assistance to States, general", $90,000; "Venereal diseases", $55,000; "Tuberculosis", $35,000; "Communicable diseases", $540,000; "Foreign quarantine service", $70,000; "Indian health activities", $650,000; and "Salaries and expenses", $720,000. DISEASE AND SANITATION INVESTIGATIONS AND CONTROL, TERRITORY OF ALASKA

For an additional amount for "Disease and sanitation investigations and control. Territory of Alaska", for the purpose of making a comprehensive survey of the need for the construction of mental health facilities, $25,000: Provided, That this paragraph shall be effective only upon the enactment into law of H. R. 6376, Eighty-fourth Congress. HOSPITALS AND MEDICAL CARE

For an additional amount for "Hospitals and medical care", including payment of claims for certain structures at Carville, Louisiana, as authorized by law, $1,225,000. REDUCTIONS I N APPROPRIATIONS GRANTS TO STATES FOR POLIOMYELITIS VACCINATION

Funds heretofore appropriated under this head are hereby reduced by $4,000,000, which sum shall be covered into the Treasury immediately upon approval of this Act. GRANTS FOR HOSPITAL CONSTRUCTION

The paragraph under this head in the Supplemental Appropriation Act, 1955 (68 Stat. 810), is amended by striKing out "to remain available until expended" and inserting in lieu thereof "to remain available until June 30, 1957"; the paragraph under this head in the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare Appropriation Act, 1956 (69 Stat. 405), and the paragraph under this head in the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare Appropriation Act, 1957 (70 Stat. 431), are amended by striking out in each the words "to remain available until expended"; and funds appropriated under this head in the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare Appropriation Act, 1955 (68 Stat. 441), and all appropriation acts prior thereto, remaining unobligated on June 30, 1956, are hereby rescinded and ordered to oe covered into the Treasury immediately upon approval of this Act.
