§ 8281. Commissioned officer grades The commissioned grades in the Kegular Air Force are: (1) Major general. (2) Brigadier general. (3) Colonel. (4) Lieutenant colonel. (5) Major. (6) Captain. (7) First lieutenant. (8) Second lieutenant. § 8284. Commissioned officers: appointment, how made Appointments in commissioned grades in the Regular Air Force shall be made by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate. §8285.

Commissioned officers: original appointment; qualifications To be eligible for original appointment in a commissioned grade in the Regular Air Force, except under section 8294(a) of this title, a person must— (1) be a citizen of the United States; (2) be at least 21 years of age; (3) be of good moral character; (4) be physically qualified for active service; and (5) have such other qualifications as the Secretary of the A i r Force may prescribe. §8286.

Commissioned officers: original appointment; age limitations (a) No person may be originally appointed in a commissioned grade in the Regular Air Force, except under section 8291 or 8294 (a) of this title, if on the date of his appointment he has already passed his— (1) thirty-fourth birthday, for a person appointed with a view to designation as a chaplain; (a) thirty-second birthday, for a person appointed with a view to designation as a medical officer, dental officer, veterinary officer, or judge advocate; (3) thirtieth birthday, for a person appointed with a view to designation as a medical service officer; or (4) twenty-c3venth birthday, for all other persons. (b) The maximum ages specified in subsection (a) are increased by the period of active commissioned service in the Air Force, and in the Army, after December 31, 1947, and performed after the appointee
