GENERAL, OFFICE BUILDING

For construction of a general office building at the National Institutes of Health, including related parking facilities $9,625,000, which shall be consolidated with funds appropriated under this head in the Second Supplemental Appropriation Act, 1957 (70 Stat. 769), to be disbursed and accounted for as one fund: Provided, That the Surgeon General is authorized to convey by quitclaim deed to the appropriate body corporate of the State of Maryland upon such terms and conditions as he may prescribe such portion of land presently included in the site of the National Institutes of Health as may be necessary to permit improvement of the street currently designated as Cedar Lane for the distance that such street runs contiguous to such site: Provided further, That such terms and conditions may include an agreement by the Surgeon General to pay on behalf of the United States fifty per centum of the cost of the improvement, but not to exceed $100,000. For construction and equipment of the National Library of Medicine, including furniture, architectural and engineering services, and moving, $6,950,000, which shall be consolidated with funds appropriated under this head in the Second Supplemental Appropriation Act, 1957 (70 Stat. 769), to be disbursed and accounted for as one fund. For the divisions and offices of the Office of the Surgeon General and for miscellaneous expenses of the Public Health Service not appropriated for elsewhere, including preparing information, articles, and publications related to public health; and conducting studies and demonstrations in public health methods, $5,260,000. For expenses necessary for the maintenance and operation of the hospital, including purchase of one passenger motor vehicle, clothing for patients, and cooperation with organizations or individuals in the scientific research into the nature, causes, prevention, and treatment of mental illness, $3,154,000.
