For an additional amount for the aquisition, establishment, and improvement by contract or purchase and hire of air navigation facilities, including the initial acquisition of necessary sites by lease or grant; the construction and furnishing of quarters and related accommodations for officers and employees of the Federal Aviation Agency stationed at remote localities not on foreign soil where such accommodations are not available (at a total cost of construction of not to exceed $50,000 per housing unit in A l a s k a); purchase of one aircraft; and the initial flight checking of air navigation facilities and the transportation by air to and from and within Alaska and the Territories of the United States of materials and equipment secured under this appropriation; $135,200,000, to remain available until expended: Provided, That there may be credited to this appropriation, funds received from States, counties, municipalities, other public authorities, and private sources, for expenses incurred in the establishment of air navigation facilities. GBANTS-IN-AID FOR AIRPORTS (LIQUIDATION OF CONTRACT AUTHORIZATION)

For liquidation of obligations incurred under authority granted in 49 s e 1101the Act of August 3, 1955 (69 Stat. 441), to enter into contracts, 1105, u 1108, 1111, $47,500,000, to remain available until expended. I i64'not*e RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

For expenses, not otherwise provided for, necessary for research, development, and service testing, including construction of experimental facilities and acquisition of necessary sites by lease or g r a n t; and purchase of not to exceed two passenger motor vehicles; $48,725,000, to remain available until expended. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE, WASHINGTON NATIONAL AIRPORT

For expenses incident to the care, operation, maintenance, improvement and protection of the Washington National Airport, including purchase of one passenger motor vehicle for replacement only; purchase, cleaning, and repair of uniforms; and arms and ammunition; $2,400,000. GENERAL PROVISIONS

During the current fiscal year applicable appropriations to the Federal Aviation Agency shall be available for the activities specified in the Act of October 26, 1949, as amended (5 U.S.C. 596a), to the extent and in the manner prescribed by said Act; maintenance and operation of aircraft; hire of passenger motor vehicles and aircraft; and uniforms, or allowances therefor, as authorized by the Act of September 1, 1954, as amended (5 U.S.C. 2131).
