SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION JOHN F. KENNEDY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

For expenses, not otherwise provided, necessary to enable the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to carry out the purposes of the Act of September 2, 1958 (72 Stat. 1698), as amended, including construction, such amounts which in the ^"'*' P- '*• aggregate wdll equal gifts, bequests, and devises of money, securities, and other property, received by the Board for the benefit of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts prior to July 1, 1965, and available or used for expenditures directly incident to the planning, contracting, and construction of the Center: Provided, That the total amount appropriated by this paragraph shall not exceed $15,500,000. SALARIES A N D E X P E N S E S

For necessary expenses of the Smithsonian Institution, including research; preservation, exhibition, and increase of collections from Government and other sources; international exchanges; anthropological researches; maintenance of the Astrophysical Observatory and making necessary observations in high altitudes; administration of the National Collection of Fine Arts and the National Portrait Gallery; including not to exceed $35,000 for services as authorized by section 15 of the Act of August 2, 1946 (5 U.S.C. 55a); purchase, ^^ s*^*- «i°repair, and cleaning of uniforms for guards and elevator operators, and uniforms or allowances therefor, as authorized by law (5 U.S.C. 2131), for other employees; repairs and alterations of buildings and ^^ s*^*- ^^^'*approaches; and preparation of manuscripts, drawings, and illustrations for publications; $15,000,000. REMODELING O F CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION B U I L D I N G

For an additional amount for necessary expenses of preparing plans and specifications for remodeling the Civil Service Commission Building to make it suitable to house certain art galleries of the Smithsonian Institution, as authorized by the Act of March 28, 1958 (72 Stat. 68), including construction and not to exceed $25,000 for services as authorized by section 15 of the Act of August 2, 1946 (5 U.S.C. 55a), $1,000,000. CONSTRUCTION A N D IMPROVEMENTS, N A T I O N A L ZOOLOGICAL P A R K

For necessary expenses of planning, construction, remodeling, and equipping of buildings and facilities at the National Zoological Park, $1,525,000, to remain available until expended: Provided, That such portion of this amount as may be necessary may be transferred to the District of Columbia (20 U.S.C. 81-84; 75 Stat. 779). islt^tzsl: 37 Stat. 437. For necessary expenses of preparing plans and specifications for the construction of a suitable building for a National Air Museum for the use of the Smithsonian Institution, as authorized by the Act of September 6, 1958 (20 U.S.C. 77b note), and not to exceed $60,000 for services as authorized by section 15 of the Act of August 2, 1946 (5 U.S.C. 55a), $1,364,000.
