SEC. 102. The rates of basic compensation of officers and members to whom the amendment made by section 101 of this title applies shall be adjusted in accordance with this section, and on and after the effective date of this title, section 102 of the Act approved September 2, 1964 (D.C. Code, sec. 4-823c), shall not apply to any such officer or member whose rate of basic compensation is so adjusted in accordance with this section. Such rates of basic compensation shall be adjusted as follows: (1) Except as otherwise provided in paragraph (2), (3), or (4), each officer and member receiving basic compensation immediately prior to the effective date of this title at one of the scheduled service or longevity rates of a class or subclass in the salary schedule in section 101 of the District of Columbia Police and Firemen's Salary Act of 1958 shall receive a rate of basic compensation at the corresponding rate in effect on and after the effective date of this title. (2) Each private in service step 6, longevity step 7, or longevity step 8 in any subclass in class 1, upon completing a minimum of nineteen years of continuous service as a private, including service in the Armed Forces of the United States but excluding any period of time determined not to have been satisfactory service, shall be advanced to longevity step 9 in class 1, and receive the appropriate scheduled rate of basic compensation for such step in the subclass in which he is serving. (3) Each officer in longevity step 7 in class 5 or 8, upon completing a minimum of fourteen years of continuous service in his respective class, including service in the Armed Forces of the United States but excluding any period of time determined not to have been satisfactory service, shall be advanced to longevity step 8 in his respective class, and receive the appropriate scheduled rate of basic compensation for such step in the class in which he was serving. (4) Each officer or member of the Metropolitan Police force who is performing the duty of a dog handler on or after the effective date of
