For administrative and clerical assistants and messenger service for Senators, $17,171,215. OFFICE OF SERGEANT AT ARMS A N D DOORKEEPER

For office of Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper, $3,364,025: Provided, That effective on the first day of the first month following date of enactment, the basic per annum compensation of one offset press operator, Service Department shall be $2,700 in lieu of $2,340, that the Serjeant at Arms may employ a telecommunications adviser at $5,520 basic per annum, an additional Sergeant, Capitol Police force at $2,880 basic per annum, an additional Lieutenant, Capitol Police force at $3,480 basic per annum, and twenty-five additional Privates, Capitol Police forc^ at $2,160 basic per annum esich: Provided further. That appointees to the Capitol Police force positions authorized herein shall have the equivalent of at least one year's police experience. OFFICES OF THE SECRETARIES FOR THE MAJORITY A N D THE MINORITY

For the offices of the Secretary for the Majority and the Secretary for the Minority, $166,675. OFFICES OF THE MAJORITY A N D MINORITY W H I P S

For four clerical assistants, two for the Majority Whip and two for the Minority Whip, at rates of compensation to be fixed in basic multiples of $60 per annum by the respective Whips, $18,460 each; in all, $36,920. OFFICE OF THE LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL OF THE SENATE

For salaries and expenses of the Office of the Legislative Counsel of the Senate, $317,895. CONTINGENT EXPENSES OF THE SENATE SENATE POLICY COMMITTEES

For salaries and expenses of the Majority Policy Committee and the Minority Policy Committee, $204,150 for each such committee; in all, $408,300. AUTOMOBILES A N D M A I N T E N A N C E

For purchase, exchange, driving, maintenance, and operation of four automobiles, one for the Vice President, one for the President Pro Tempore, one for the Majority Leader, and one for the Minority Leader, $43,660. FURNITURE

For service and materials in cleaning and repairing furniture, and for the purchase of furniture, $31,190: Provided, That the furniture purchased is not available from other agencies of the Government.
