SEC. 2. Funds are hereby authorized to be appropriated for fiscal year 1969 for payment to bridge owners for the cost of alteration of railroad and public highway bridges to permit free navigation of the navigable waters of the United States in the amount of $5,800,000. SEC. 3. During fiscal years 1969 through and including 1970, the Secretary of the Department in which the Coast Guard is operating is authorized to lease housing facilities at or near Coast Guard installations wherever located for assignment as public quarters to military personnel and their dependents, if any, without rental charge upon a determination by the Secretary, or his designee, that there is a lack of adequate housing facilities at or near such Coast Guard installations. Such housing facilities may be leased on an individual or multiple unit bjisis. Expenditures for the rental of such housing facilities may not exceed the average authorized for the Department of Defense. Approved June 8, 1968.
