TRUST TERRITORY OF THE PACIFIC ISLANDS

For expenses necessary for the Department of the Interior in administration of the T r u s t Territory of the Pacific Islands pursuant to the Trusteeship Agreement approved by joint resolution of July 18, 1947, (61 Stat. 397), and the Act of June 30, 1954 (68 Stat. 330), as amended (90 Stat. 299), including the expenses of the H i g h Commissioner of the T r u s t Territory of the Pacific Islands; compensation and expenses of the J u d i c i a r y of the T r u s t T e r r i to r y of the Pacific Islands; g r a n t s to the T r u s t Territory of the Pacific Islands in addition to local revenues, for support of "governmental functions; $79,077,000, to remain available until expended: Provided, That all financial transactions of the T r u s t Territory, including such transactions of all agencies or instrumentalities established or utilized by such T r u s t Territory, shall be audited by the General Accounting Office in accordance with the provisions of the Budget and Accounting Act, 1921 (42 Stat. 2 3), as amended, and the Accounting and A u d i t i n g Act of 1950 (64 Stat. 834): Provided further. That the government of the T r u s t T e r r i to r y of the Pacific Islands is authorized to make purchases through the General Services Administration: Provided further, That appropriations available for the administration of the T r u s t T e r r i to r y of the Pacific Islands may be expended for the purchase, charter, maintenance, and operation of surface vessels for official purposes and for commercial transportation purposes found by the Secretary to be necessary in carrying out the provisions of article 6(2) of the Trusteeship Agreement approved by Congress. For necessary expenses of the Office of the Solicitor, $12,371,000. OFFICE OF THE

SECRETARY

SALARIES AND EXPENSES

For necessary expenses of the Office of the Secretary of the Interior, including not to exceed $2,000 for official reception and representation expenses, $20,620,000. DEPARTMENTAL OPERATIONS

For necessary expenses for certain operations that provide departmentwide services, $12,926,000. SALARIES AND EXPENSES (SPECIAL FOREIGN CURRENCY PROGRAM)

For payment in foreign currencies which the Treasury Department shall determine to be excess to the normal requirements of the United States, for necessary expenses of the Office of the Secretary, as authorized by law, $907,000, to remain available until expended: Provided, That this appropriation shall be available, in addition to other appropriations, to such office for payments in the foregoing currencies ( 7 U.S.C. 1704).
