Appropriation authorization. Duplicates.

To authorize the President of the United States to present on behalf of the Congress a specially struck gold medal to Lieutenant General Ira C. Eaker, United States Air Force (retired). Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That (a) the President of the United States is hereby authorized to present, on behalf of the Congress, to Lieutenant General Ira C. Eaker, United States Air Force (retired), a gold medal of appropriate design in recognition of his distinguished career as an aviation pioneer and Air Force leader. For such purpose, the Secretary of the Treasury is authorized and directed to cause to be struck a gold medal with suitable emblems, devices, and inscriptions to be determined by the Secretary of the Air Force with the approval of the Secretary of the Treasury. There are authorized to be appropriated not to exceed $5,000 to carry out the provisions of this subsection. (b) The Secretary of the Treasury may cause duplicates in bronze of such medal to be struck and sold at not less than the estimated cost of manufacture, including labor, materials, dies, use of machinery, and overhead exfjenses, plus 25 per centum of such cost of manufacture. The appropriation then current and chargeable for the cost of manufacture of such duplicate medals shall be fully reimbursed from the payment required by this section and received by the Secretary: Provided., That any money received in excess of the actual cost of manufacture of such duplicate medals shall from time to time be covered into the Treasury. Security satisfactory to the Director of the Mint shall be furnished to fully indemnify the United States for the payment required by this section. (c) The medals provided for in this section are national medals for the purpose of section 3551 of the Revised Statutes (31 U.S.C. 368). Approved October 10, 1978.
