Designating October 19, 1981, as a "Day of National Observance of the Two Hundredth Anniversary of the Surrender of Lord Cornweillis to General George Washington at Yorktown, Virginia."

Whereas October 19, 1981, is the two hundredth anniversary of the surrender of Lord Cornwallis to General George Washington at Yorktown, Virginia; and Whereas such date marks the anniversary of the end of the heroic struggle by our forefathers for political freedom and the ideals of liberty upon which our institutions are founded; and Whereas it is fitting that this historic event be commemorated in such manner as to rekindle love of country and devotion to its principles by recalling to this generation the trials and triumphs of the past: Now, therefore, be it Observance of 200th Anniversary of Surrender of Lord Cornwallis to General George Washington. Designation.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That October 19, 1981, is proclaimed a Day of National Observance of the Two Hundredth Anniversary of the Surrender of Lord Cornwallis to General George Washington at Yorktown, Virginia, and the President is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe such day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
