Public Law 97-349 97th Congress Joint Resolution Oct. 18, 1982 [S.J. Res. 261]

To designate "National Housing Week".

Whereas Congress has repeatedly reaffirmed the national goal of a decent home and a suitable living environment for every American family; Whereas nullions of Americans, particularly young families, are finding the opportunity for homeownership and decent housing out of their reach; Whereas excessive and duplicative government regulations at the Federal, State, and local level have increased the cost of housing throughout the country; Whereas the Nation's housing industry has been a msQor contributor to the national economy by creating jobs and generating revenue; Whereas homeownership and decent housing promotes pride and contributes to the stability of the family in ^ e r i c a; and Whereas it is appropriate to reaffirm our Nation's historic commitment to housing as a national priority to preserve the American dream: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United National Stotcs of America in Congress assembled. That October 24-31, 1982, Housing Week, y^ dcclarcd "National Housing Week" and that the President of the United States be autiiorized and requested to issue a proclamation cedlhig upon all people of the United states to observe tms week with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
