That the two Houses of Congress assemble in the Hall of the House Communications of Representatives on Wednesday, April 27, 1983, at 8 o'clock post ^'^^'^ President. meridiem, for the purpose of receiving such communications as the President of the United States shall be pleased to make to them. Agreed to April 21, 1983. UNITED STATES AND THAILAND—ONE HUNDRED Apr. 28, 1983 AND FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF DIPLOMATIC [S. Con. Res. 19] RELATIONS Whereas March 20, 1983, marks the one hundred and fiftieth anni- versary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce between the United States and the Kingdom of Thailand, formerly named Siam; Whereas this treaty marked the opening of formal diplomatic rela- tions between the two countries and was the first treaty concluded between the United States and an Asian nation; Whereas the United States and Thailand, during the past one hundred and fifty years, have developed a close, friendly, and cooperative relationship to the benefit of their nations and peo- ples; and Whereas the people of the United States and the people of Thailand share a strong and abiding attachment to the ideals of individual freedom and national independence: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), That the Congress hereby recognizes the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of relations between the United States and Thailand. SEC. 2. The Congress extends warm congratulations to His Majesty the King of Thailand and to the Thai people on this historic occasion, together with the best wishes for long continuation of the warm and cordial relations which bind our two peoples. SEC. 3. The Secretary of the Senate shall transmit a copy of this concurrent resolution to the President of the United States with the request that the President transmit such copy to the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand.
