PUBLIC LAW 98-367—JULY 17, 1984 No part of any appropriation contained in this Act shall be paid as compensation to any person appointed after June 30, 1935, as an officer or member of the Capitol Police who does not meet the standards to be prescribed for such appointees by the Capitol Police Board.

OFFICIAL MAIL COSTS

For expenses necessary for official mail costs, $73,944,000, to be disbursed by the Clerk of the House, to be available immediately upon enactment of this Act. CAPITOL GUIDE SERVICE

For salaries and expenses of the Capitol Guide Service, $810,000, to be disbursed by the Secretary of the Senate: Provided, That none of these funds shall be used to employ more than twenty-eight individuals: Provided further. That the Capitol Guide Board is authorized, during emergencies, to employ not more than two additional individuals for not more than one hundred twenty days each, and not more than ten additional individuals for not more than six months each, for the Capitol Guide Service. STATEMENTS OF APPROPRIATIONS

For the preparation, under the direction of the Committees on Appropriations of the Senate and House of Representatives, of the statements for the second session of the Ninety-eighth Congress, showing appropriations made, indefinite appropriations, and contracts authorized, together with a chronological history of the regular appropriation bills as required by law, $13,000, to be paid to the persons designated by the chairmen of such committees to supervise the work. OFFICE OF TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT SALARIES AND EXPENSES

For salaries and expenses necessary to carry out the provisions of the Technology Assessment Act of 1972 (Public Law 92-484), including reception and representation expenses (not to exceed $3,000 from the Trust Fund) and rental of space in the District of Columbia, and those necessary to carry out the duties of the Director of the Office of Technology Assessment under Section 1886 of the Social Security Act as amended by Section 601 of the Social Security Amendments of 1983 (Public Law 98-21), $15,549,000: Provided, That none of the funds in the Act shall be available for salaries or expenses of any employee of the Office of Technology Assessment in excess of 143 staff employees: Provided further. That no part of this appropriation shall be available for assessment or activities not initiated and approved in accordance with section 3(d) of Public Law 92-484, except that funds shall be available for the assessment required by Public Law 96-151.
