"^^ amend the Bankruptcy Amendments and Federal Judgeship Act of 1984 to make technical corrections with respect to the retirement of certain bankruptcy judges, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled. That the Bankruptcy Amendments and Federal Judgeship Act of 1984 is amendedRepeal. (1) by Striking out section 552, and Ante, p. 392. (2) by redesignating section 553 as section 552. SEC. 2. (a) Subparagraphs (A) and (B) of section 8331(22) of title 5, United States Code, are amended to read as follows: "(A) who is serving as a United States bankruptcy judge on March 31, 1984; "(B) whose service as United States bankruptcy judge at any time in the period beginning on October 1, 1979, and ending on July 10, 1984, is terminated by reason of death or disability; or". (b) Subsection (1) of section 8336 of title 5, United States Code, as so designated by section 1256(b)(1) of the Defense Department Authorization Act, 1984 (Public Law 98-94; 97 Stat. 701), is redesignated as subsection (m). (c) Section 8339(n) of title 5, United States Code, is amended by striking out "March 31, 1979, and before the date of the enactment of the Bankruptcy Amendments and Federal Judgeship Act of 1984" and inserting in lieu thereof "as a referee in bankruptcy and". Effective dates. SEC. 3. (a) Except as provided in subsection (b), this Act and the 5 USC 8331 note, amendments made by this Act shall take effect on July 10, 1984. (b) The amendments made by section 2 shall take effect on March 31, 1984. Approved October 19, 1984.
