The Italian peninsula reached the Neolithic period circa 6000 BC and the Bronze Age around 1500 BC. Italian history includes the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, the Kingdom of the Lombards, fragmentation into powerful city states, unification, the Italian Empire, the rise and fall of Fascism and inception of a new (and current) Republic.
