Littell's Living Age/Volume 151/Issue 1952/Song

When fields were green and skies were clear,
And bluebells paved the woods of spring,
I weighed the world against her tear,
And found her tear the dearer thing.
But while I followed gain and fame,
And in the great world played my part,
I changed; but she remained the same,
And now I think it broke her heart.
