Notes edit

The fact that the associated activity spans four years has caused confusion on what date to pin it to. The year 1750 is common. "British Calendar Act of 1750 Implemented Across The Years 1751, 1752, and 1753 is the creation of Gilbert Healton ([1]).

The title used in this page uses the version by Ernest C. Marsh ([2]), as there was confusion to what year it was for the months of January, February, and part of March of 1751, because new year used to be started at March 25th. To avoid confusion many colonial records used dates providing both the official and common year. A typical example is "5 Feb 1750/51". ([3])

About the digital text: The digital text originally typed by Mark Brader of Toronto on Tue, 28 Jan 92. [sic] brackets are from him.

About the original text: The original text is written as 6 long paragraphs, one for each section marked off by Roman numerals. Mark have broken it into shorter paragraphs; converted all lists containing long items from in-line text to point form (<li>s), but left lists of short items in line; changed most cardinal or ordinal numerals in figures, while the original text always has it in words -- for example, "the second Day of September in the said Year one thousand seven hundred and fifty-two" changed into "the 2nd Day of September in the said Year 1752" (marginal notes in the original text do use figures); but still retained the original Capitalization, spelling, punctuation, and italicization.)

The Calendar Act included many tables, some of which included here (digitalized by Gilbert Healthon ([4]), all of them (image format) can be accessed from http://www.legislation.gov.uk/apgb/Geo2/24/23
