Alcock, Lt. Col. Alfred William, C.I.E., M.B., LL.D., F.R.S.; born, 1859; educated at Mill Hill, Blackheath, Westminster, and Aberdeen University; M.B.; Assistant Professor of Zoology, Aberdeen University, 1883-85; joined the Indian Medical Service. 1885; served in the Punjab Frontier force; Surgeon Naturalist to the Marine Survey of India on board the Investigator, 1888-1892; and to Pamir Boundary Commission, 1895; Superintendent of the Indian Museum and Professor of Zoology in the Medical College, Calcutta, since 1893; C.I.E., 1903; Author of A Naturalist in Indian Seas and numerous Zoological monographs; retired 1907.
