Atkinson, Sir John Nathaniel, K.C.S.I., I.C.S.; joined service as Assistant Collector and Magistrate, Kistna, 1878; served in various capacities and in various districts till 1894 when he was posted, as Collector and Magistrate of Kistna but was made to officiate as Collector, etc. of Madras in which post he was confirmed in 1897. In 1900, he became acting Third Member, Board of Revenue, Madras; in 1903 he became Secretary to the Government, Revenue Department. He was also an Additional Member of the Madras Legislative Council in 1901-1902 and again from 1903 to 1905; Acting Chief Secretary to the Government of Madras, 1908; Temporary Member of Council, 1909; Ordinary Member of Council Madras, August, 1909; C.S.I., 1908; K.C.S.I., 1912; retired from service, 1914.
