Baroda, H.H. Maharajah Gaekwar Sir Sayaji Rao III Shamshir Bahadur G.C.S.I. (1881): born, 1803 descended from the founders of the Baroda dynasty: adopted by Jemnabai, widow of the Gaekwar Khandi Rao: m. 1st, Chimnabai Maharani, 1875 C.I., 1880; 2nd, Chimnabai Maharani II C.I., 1885; three sons, and one daughter, educated at the Maharaja's school at Baroda; installed, 1875: during his minority, there was a Council of Regency under a British officer and Raja Sir Tanjore Madhava Rao, K.C.S.I.; entrusted with the administration of the State 1831; made G.C.S.I, 1887; an enlightened ruler, and holds advanced views on social questions; has several times visited Europe.
