Bernal Diaz del Castillo, upon whose eye-witness accounts in his "Historia Verdadera de la Conquista de la Nueva-España," or "True History of the Conquest of New Spain," this book is in great measure founded. He was born in Spain in the year 1492, and died in Guatemala about 1581.
