Highlights
editAfter the end of the first run of Sherlock Holmes stories, there were a large number of imitators, writing serialised short detective stories. One of the first to appear in The Strand Magazine was the Martin Hewitt, Investigator series, by A. G. Morrison, consisting of 7 stories (many more would be written and collected in books).
The July issue sees the first contribution by J. Holt Schooling, who would write a number of articles over the next few years for The Strand on statistical topics.
The December issue sees the introduction of Brigadier Gerard in The Medal of Brigadier Gerard by A. Conan Doyle. This character would soon get a whole series of stories in The Strand. This issue also sees the first of J. A. Shepherd's Fables series - often based on the stories of Aesop, which would appear in almost every issue for several years to come.
This year sees the end of the Stories from the Diary of a Doctor serial, as well as Zig-Zags at the Zoo and the humour section The Queer Side of Things.
