Translation talk:Dictionary of French Architecture from the 11th to 16th Century

Something weird happened; I corrected a mistranslated idiom (plutot que, even separated by some text, as this is, means "rather than") and the French original text went away. Not sure what to do to get it back; it was hovering over the English translated text and illustrations with some crossovers, so maybe there were problems with the coding to begin with, but someone who knows how to fix that might want to do something to retrieve it. Thoughts about this ambitious translation? edit

@Beleg Tâl: I see that you moved this to Translation ns. last year. Do you think that this has any hope of being continued? To me it looked like a nice idea in the early years, however, is overly ambitious and ultimately not of particular benefit without supporting text, and simply being another encyclopaedia. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:39, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Billinghurst: I doubt it will be continued. If it can be scan-backed then it would be worth keeping regardless (and I wish the proofread page extension would work in this namespace), otherwise I would support deletion. —Beleg Tâl (talk) 15:51, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Further to which, it can be scan-backed. —Beleg Tâl (talk) 17:44, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Have I missed something about scan and translation ns? My understanding is that it is only page numbering that fails. Clearly I am missing something. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:37, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Beleg Tâl: @Billinghurst: I've tracked down a complete translation of the Dictionary from 1919 that I have on PDF (from microfiche). I would love to share so that it can be transcribed here (and placed with the illustrations, which are not included). How can I help? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.190.186.134 (talk)

Hi 71.190.186.134. Notifications only work if the edit in which the {{ping}} template is added also ends with a signature, so neither Beleg Tâl nor billinghurst will have gotten your original (they'll get one now with this message).
The Translation: namespace here is for original translations created by Wikisource users, not previously published translations. If you have a scan of a previously published public domain translation of this work we would typically host that in the main namespace. The process is described in Help:Adding texts. The short version is: 1) create a DjVu (preferably) or PDF file with an OCR text layer; 2) upload it to Wikimedia Commons; 3) create an Index: for it; 4) Proofread (transcribe and format) each page of it in the Page: namespace; and 5) transclude it to a suitable place in the main namespace (typically at Dictionary of French Architecture from the 11th to 16th Century).
If you need assistance or have questions please feel free to ask. You may want to register an account though (they're free!) to make it easier for other to communicate with you. --Xover (talk) 08:17, 8 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
