Chap. LXIV.—An Act supplementary to “An act for the gradual increase of the navy of the United States.”
Act of April 29, 1816, ch. 138.
The President to cause the building of one of the ships authorized by the act for the gradual increase of the navy to be suspended, &c.Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the President of the United States is hereby authorized to cause the building of one of the ships authorized by the act for the gradual increase of the navy of the United States, to be suspended, and the timber for the same to be laid up and secured. And he is hereby further authorized, if in his opinion, the same can be done on advantageous terms to the United States, to cause to be purchased for the United States, a ship of not less than the smallest class authorized to be built by the said act, and for carrying such purchase into effect, the amount for which the purchase may be made, may be paid out of the appropriation heretofore made for the gradual increase of the navy of the United States.
