Hello, Lighthead, welcome to Wikisource! Thanks for your interest in the project; we hope you'll enjoy the community and your work here.

You'll find an (incomplete) index of our works listed at Wikisource:Works, although for very broad categories like poetry you may wish to look at the categories like Category:Poems instead.

Please take a glance at our help pages (especially Adding texts and Wikisource's style guide). Most questions and discussions about the community are in the Scriptorium.

The Community Portal lists tasks you can help with if you wish. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page! John Vandenberg (chat) 04:20, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Bhagavad Gita edit

Which sacred-texts edition would you wish to import?

We have a work in progress at The Bhagavad Gita (Arnold translation), and I will set up a transcription project of SBE vol. 8

We are not likely to approve deletion of The Bhagavad Gita until a replacement has been completed, and even then we would still keep this edition if it is PD and published.

There has been a slow moving discussion about renaming the edition we do have to reduce its prominence; see Talk:The Bhagavad Gita and User_talk:Objectivesea#The_Bhagavad_Gita (and probably elsewhere as well). If you are going to work on a better edition, the name of the current one will be addressed with more urgency, so that the best edition is given more prominence.

You can reply either here or on Talk:The Bhagavad Gita, to keep the discussion centralised. (I am now watching your talk page, and have enabled my prefs to notify me when pages on my watchlist are modified.) John Vandenberg (chat) 02:56, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

on The Bhagavad Gita (Arnold translation), the source is provided. John Vandenberg (chat) 04:44, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
They "should" be the same. If they are not the same, then we need to work out why. If they are the same, you can use whichever you prefer.
Also, the SBE transcription project is now ready: Index:Sacred Books of the East - Volume VIII.djvu - the text needs to be placed on each page. I have started it by doing pages 4-6. John Vandenberg (chat) 06:41, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

We want 100% accurate texts, true to a single printed edition. However people contribute texts of varying quality, and we gladly take when we can. The best quality work is when it is backed by pagescans, such as Index:Sacred Books of the East - Volume VIII.djvu - the text is be placed alongside the images. Then undesirable changes are quickly seen to be undesirable, so they are rejected quickly.

Also, we allow "new" translations to be created, so that modern language can be used. See Bible (Free). See Wikisource:Translations --John Vandenberg (chat) 07:55, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
