Hyphens

As noted at Help:Index pages, we generally use a "-" to identify blank pages that do not fall within the standard numbering system. Pages which lack page numbers and are not blank need some other identification. --EncycloPetey (talk) 18:41, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Don't see why. It just messes up the main namespace since the page "number" floats on top of the regular text and makes it hard to read. I could label things "Random Page With Text" but that helps exactly nobody if it's an unnumbered page at the beginning of the work that isn't a readily categorized thing (eg author's note, whatever.)

Because (a) we undertook a community discussion and came to this decision (among others), and (b) linking to a particular page in the Main namespace is only possible when each page has a unique identifier. --EncycloPetey (talk) 01:33, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

Wait, what? That's not true. The unique identifier is the scan page number (eg. page #5 on the djvu file); the link display has nothing to do with that in main NS. So even if there's pages that show [-] instead of, eg, [5] for the page number on the main NS, the [-] still links back to the correct page in the scan.

I keep hoping that others would offer (as it keeps seeming to be me that pushes), anyway … In my opinion it is time that you were looking to take the step to the advanced mop and bucket. @Billinghurst: No, it's cool. It's just that my only real experience with the RFA process has been on en-wiki where it's 70% drama and politics; I actually opted out of all future RFAs because I couldn't deal with the politicking. enWS is small enough that we don't really have that sort of stuff going on, so I'm not really sure why I was worried about it. Could you show me how you did the image? i.e is it simple? I’ve worked out how to open the image, download, open in some image editor on my computer and upload. How to make the background white? I've been looking at the {{anchor+}} template that I saw you used on page 546. I didn't even know it existed previously, to be honest. Have you any thoughts as to standardization of templates for use in this work? It may be worth documenting on the talk page what templates should be used, and how. It's a bit late for people doing transcription, but at least validators will be able to standardize the look of the transcluded work if there's a guideline to follow. --Mukkakukaku (talk) 03:51, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

File:WHR Rivers - Studies in Neurology - Vol 2.djvu and vol. 1

I am confused. This volume says it is by Henry Head, with contributions by Rivers, and others, yet you have attributed to Rivers, et al. Can we please have the attributions updated. I would think that we should be putting {{book}} templates onto these works, and then looking to move them to Commons. It is less than ideal your detail on these files. Having these files set up allows for their appropriate move to Commons when due, and for others not to try and work what the heck is happening. @Billinghurst: There is a reason that I did it this way, though it escapes me now. These books are a collection of reprints of scientific papers written by Henry Head in conjunction with various other scientists (Rivers, et al). I guess it would've been more accurate to attribute it to H. Head, et al.

Oh I found it. This was a request on Requested Texts. John Vandenberg asked for the volumes, saying "collaborative work, inc. W. H. R. Rivers - the other authors need to be investigated before copyright can be established, but in the very least it is {{PD-1923}} and can be uploaded to Wikisource." I misunderstood that Rivers wasn't the primary author, so that's on me. But I took John at his word about the copyright issue. --Mukkakukaku (talk) 15:43, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

I started working with French texts and then Spanish ones and now I am trying one in English. I have tried to look through the help pages on wikisource and all I can say is that they are confusing and help little. My help has come mostly from other users and from copying from already posted articles, etc. I am still to learn how to create an author's page, having spent valuable time looking through the help pages in the three languages! Another problem is that each different language has its set of edit rules and names that need to be learned. Thank you for your comments - as for the file you mentioned I noticed the OCR is not good and will try to upload a djvu file instead. GinnevraDubois (talk) 16:43, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

Unfortunately I'm not overly familiar with these particular templates. You may have more luck if you post a new topic in WS:Scriptorium/Help indicating what you're trying to accomplish and what you've attempted so far. We have some contributors who are very familiar with the underlying wiki engines and templates who will probably be able to guide you in the appropriate direction.

@Goodtiming8871: -- Yes it would be possible, but there's little point since nothing links to The Joint Statement between USA and DPRK. Redirects are done the same as on Wikipedia; see Help:Redirects. However unlike Wikipedia, we do not link "alternate search terms". Alternate titles are a grey area unless they're unique to a single works.

Shakespeare

Hello,

I can see from your profile page that your education and experience is not in the field of literature or poetry. You have errors on your page (like a space before the sign "..."). Nonetheless, you have reverted my changes to a page about a poem erroneously assigned to Shakespeare. You have reverted even a TYPO in the title. Shall is written with "l", and not with "i" (Shail). You have removed my explanations and justifications, together with a valid, reliable reference. I feel disappointed that as a Wiki moderator you act in this careless manner.

Unlike yourself, I do have a university degree in languages, including courses in literature, plus a post-grad in creative writing. I am a poetry enthusiast and a poet myself. Nonetheless, as a plane engineer or IT specialist or whatever, you consider yourself to be more entitled to decide about matters that university researchers in the field of literature have already debated and decided upon. The poem "Shall I die or shall i fly" is not to be found in any official anthology of Shakespeare's oeuvre.

problem(s)?

@RaboKarbakian: - The letters "A", "B", etc are not page numbers. They're the appendices. The pages themselves are unnumbered. When they get transcluded, they will be transcluded as /Appendix A, /Appendix B, etc. When these appendices include multiple pages, the CAB tended to use lower case roman numerals for page numbers (eg. i, ii, iii, etc.) However when they only consisted of a single page, those single pages were unnumbered.

I don't know what you mean by "asked to process the images"; the only thing I reverted were the changes in the page numbering which were incorrect. --Mukkakukaku (talk) 07:27, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
