Dividing texts into subpagesEdit

Hi, we don't do subpages by page, but by chapter. Please see Help:Subpages for more details before you go much further. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 07:10, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Sorry. I do not know how to divide the information into subpages. We discuss the mater later.Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 07:48, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Please don't create mainspace article without creating and proofreading the work/chapter in page name space; otherwise it won't display (if pages not created) or display in an ugly manner (if not proofread). Thanks, Hrishikes (talk) 14:12, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Thank you very much.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 14:13, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Which is given name and which is family name?Edit

In Author:Tekumalla Achyuta Rau in the author header you have put

 | firstname = Tekumalla
 | lastname = Achyuta Rau
 | last_initial = Te

I would have thought that the family name was "Rau" and if that is the case then the header should be constructed

 | firstname = Tekumalla Achyuta
 | lastname = Rau
 | last_initial = Ra

if the family name is indeed "Achyuta Rau" or "Tekumalla" then please let me know as we need to fix for those. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:13, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

@Billinghurst: It is a South Indian name; as per the common format of such names, Tekumalla would be the family name/surname; and Achyuta Rau would be the given name. Surname/family name/patronymic comes before the given name. Other examples: w:P. V. Narasimha Rao, w:P. T. Usha, w:C. V. Raman. Anyway, the work is PD-India, but not PD-US, due to URAA restoration. So, not appropriate here (although allowed on Commons). Hrishikes (talk) 02:06, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for your concern. According to South Indian family naming system; Tekumalla is his family name or surname. Achyuta Rau is his given name. You can change the template and correct.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 03:03, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

Author nameEdit

Please create the author names with bare names, without Sir, Baronet etc. Hrishikes (talk) 10:27, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

To note that we do not disambiguate by label, we use dates of life with a hyphen, so (YYYY-YYYY). In our space, families often had the same name and careers, so the labelling failed for us. Information at Help:Disambiguation#Authors. — billinghurst sDrewth 10:37, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

Raising the issue of this here, because whilst the original author's work may well be public domain, the edition upload contains new material (such as additional commentary) which may may still be in copyright.

The source lists this as Public Domain, but I fail to see how this would be applicable to any new material, the date for the specific edition being sometime around 2012 (based on the translated portion mentioned below).

Index:Gurujadalu English.djvu also referred here as there's no information as to whether this is an original or a later translation (the date givien for the edition is 2012)

It would be much appreciated if you could clarify what the status of this work is, as neither Wikisource or Wikimedia Commons can host material which is still in copyright.

I'd also strongly suggest you get a permission confirmation from the foundation that published the edition you uploaded in good faith. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 11:17, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for the suggestion ShakespeareFan00. @Hrishikes: helped me in separating the Telugu and English content. But still there is overlap. It is difficult to get the permission from the publishers- Manasu Foundation. We are interested in the original works only. Can you help in the separation of his individual English works.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 10:27, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

For youEdit

Index:Tales of the Sun.djvu and Index:Deccan Nursery Tales.djvu. Hrishikes (talk) 15:36, 24 November 2017 (UTC)

@Hrishikes: I have created this: Deccan Nursery Tales/The Sunday Story Is it O.K.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 05:54, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
A smallrefs was required, which I have added. For the front matter, you can emulate Tales from the Indian Epics. Hrishikes (talk) 07:22, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
@Hrishikes:, I am following that. All the photographs in this book needs to be uploaded to commons and proofread in here.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 13:56, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

Chapter number styleEdit

Hi. We label chapters with arabic numerals, not with roman numerals, as explained in Wikisource:Style guide. When someone moves the page to arabic numerals it is not a good idea to just move it back again. Always worth asking. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:14, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

Also to note that we don't apply page formatting like {{justify}}. The sort of formatting is applied by the user through the toggle of the layouts in the left toolbar. If you wish to apply a preferred layout, then please look {{default layout}}. The reasoning here is that we wish to present the text, though to leave the formatting to the preference of the user for the device in which they are reading. It is also why we don't impose fonts and the like. Pretty certain that this in explained in the style guide too. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:20, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: There is no prohibition to justified text in the Style Guide as far as I could see. Can you please give a pointer? The formatting guideline is this: Page layout should mimic the original page layout within limits, but avoid unnecessary complexity that makes the text difficult to edit or read. Justified text is not difficult to edit or read. Hrishikes (talk) 14:23, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
@Hrishikes: The layouts are there for formatting, and if you wish to have it as the default, that is explained how to have that. Imposing justification means that the layouts don't work. If it is not in the style guide, then we need to add it. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:41, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: It depends on what one wishes to achieve. Default layout template contains elements additional to justified text. If one only wishes justified text and not those other elements (like positioning of the page), then there is no rule stipulating that default layout template is mandatory and other options cannot be explored. Moreover, style guide supports justified text (Page layout should mimic the original page layout) because all printed matter has justified text. Hrishikes (talk) 15:01, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
The community has for ages been about using the layouts, and not undertaking formatting as you are suggesting. I don't think that this is the appropriate place for the discussion; I am happy with you transferring this discussion to WS:S or elsewhere. — billinghurst sDrewth 15:05, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
The matter can be transferred to Scriptorium when there is a case for it. I am aware that default layout is the preferred method. But I am not aware that justify template is prohibited for page layout in main space. An editor can go for an unusual method, like your using alternate method for {{hws}}, as long as it is not prohibited. If you can provide some reference that community consensus prohibits {{justify}} for this purpose, only then there will be a case for me for taking the matter to Scriptorium, if I want to change the rule. Hrishikes (talk) 15:34, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

Author pages only where there is a hope that we can host worksEdit

Hi. We would normally only create author pages where there is a hope of their having work in the public domain or otherwise freely licensed. We may have an author page if they are referenced in works that we are reproducing. It is not usual for us to create author pages outside of this reasons, so I have deleted "R. K. Narayan". It would be worthwhile reviewing other author pages you have already created to see if they fall into that criteria. This has been discussed a few times by the community and this is the process that was determined to follow. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:42, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for the suggestion. You can remove those author pages, which are not according to the Wikisource guidelines.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 11:18, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

Prefer to finish transcription prior to transcludingEdit

I would prefer that a word is properly proofread prior to being transcluded to the main namespace. If I hav left a page red as not proofread, I don't feel that it is ready for main namespace. Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:38, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

Please see Wikisource:Style guide, especially the punctuation guidelines under Formatting.

  1. Remove extra spaces around punctuation, eg. colons, semicolons, periods (full stops), parentheses or commas, as well as incremental spacing found within justified text.
  2. Dashes (emdash or endash) preferably should be entered as actual characters (i.e. — (em) and – (en)). Longer dashes should make use of {{bar}}. Whichever dash is used, it should not be flanked by spaces.

So your retention of the space around punctuation marks is against policy. Hrishikes (talk) 02:51, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

@Hrishikes: Have I done any mistake in proofreading any page.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 07:05, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
Special:diff/7589481 -- Hrishikes (talk) 07:24, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
I would follow the style guidelines. Sorry for the mistakes.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 07:53, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

Illustrations of Indian BotanyEdit

I am really surprised at how my usual methods failed with these images. I spent too much time for how they came out.

Maybe my recent experience with them has prejudiced me against them.

It is your choice and my feelings will not be hurt. If you think the original is superior, I will figure out how to use their crop tool to extract the originals.

Everything with this has taken longer than it really ought to have. Also. So, thanks for your patience.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 00:18, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

@RaboKarbakian: I think the images are far better than the original. I am not very much knowledgeable and familiar with the methods in photo editing the images. Though it is time consuming, your commitment has given out good output. Thank you. Thank you very much for your help.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 04:04, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
I think you did not look at them in their full resolution. I lost more detail than is good. The amount of time put into them is not worth the output, especially for scientific documents.
Also, there are like 10 volumes? You will need a committed image restorer to determine a good method and manage the full set in a consistent fashion. I have previous commitments. Only vacation work right now.
One of my biggest commitments is to the scientific integrity of the wikimedia projects also. My work has been too destructive on those images.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 15:15, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
It might be more help (for both of us, actually) for me to install the complete set at wikidata.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 15:24, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
@RaboKarbakian: I am sorry for troubling you.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 15:31, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
To be clear, the trouble was not you.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 20:14, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Index:The Indian Antiquary, Vol. 1-1872.djvuEdit

Hi, Rajasekhar1961,

I see you put a {{delete}} template on the Index:The Indian Antiquary, Vol. 1-1872.djvu page; however you didn't start a discussion on the Wikisource:Proposed deletions page, so nothing has happened in this regard. If you no longer wish to propose that this page be deleted, please consider removing the template. Alternatively, you can start the discussion using this link, which will continue the deletion process.

Thanks, Mukkakukaku (talk) 01:56, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

@Mukkakukaku: Thanks for your concern. The uploaded scan images of Index:The Indian Antiquary, Vol. 1-1872.djvu are very poor quality. A new scan copy [Index:The Indian Antiquary Vol 1.pdf] is uploaded. Hence, I requested the poor scan link index page to be deleted.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 03:21, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
I see that you were the uploader in this case. Therefore, you can request for deletion straightway, if other editors have not worked on the book. Sdelete template should be used instead of delete (which requires discussion). If you tag it with sdelete, an admin can delete it under the provision of author request. Hrishikes (talk) 07:54, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
Thank your sir. I will do that way.Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 08:19, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi Rajasekhar. I’ve created the template {{Telugu}} since you tried to use it here. You’re welcome to tag the Telugu text with it, since it is useful to categorize page with different scripts. Cheers χchi (talk) 12:50, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Edgar ThurstonEdit

Thanks for what you are doing at Author:Edgar Thurston. However I would like to propose that if you add more volumes of his Castes and Tribes of Southern India series you create a template similar in format and scope to Template:Provincial geographies indexes where all of the volumes would be present (you are omitting the bolded present volume in question in the volumes you have added so far). Solomon7968 (talk) 13:45, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

@Solomon7968: Thank you for the advise. I would follow that. Is there any advantage of using this template.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 15:30, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
Yes you got to bold the current index. Even if you don’t consider it an advantage using template is lot cleaner and technologically superior, I must say. Solomon7968 (talk) 16:16, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
@Solomon7968: I have created the template: Template:Castes and Tribes of Southern India. Please check for any errors. Thank you.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 05:58, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

Indic Wikisource Community Consultation 2018Edit

Hi, are you attending this conference? If you have received invitation, please attend. Then we will be able to have some quality interaction. Best, Hrishikes (talk) 07:00, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

@Hrishikes: Surely, I will try to attend the conference. Thank you sir.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 07:24, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
Then, please send a confirmation via email to CIS. Hrishikes (talk) 07:29, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
Could you please confirm your availability and fillup the form within 2 days? Jayantanth (talk) 17:53, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
I am waiting for your reply. Jayantanth (talk) 16:37, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
@Jayantanth: and @Hrishikes: I am sorry to disappoint you. I am not able to spend time out of station for 3 days; because of my laboratory work. Please excuse me sir. Thank you very much for the interest shown to me.--Rajasekhar1961 (talk) 17:47, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

Young IndiaEdit

Hello, Today is the Birth anniversary of vetran freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai. I am happy to say that I have finished proof-reading his book Young India on English Wikisource. However, I require some help with the appendix and also since this is my first book, there could be few mistakes. I will be happy in correcting those however would request someone to validate the same for me. Thanks. --Abhinav619 (talk) 04:49, 28 January 2019 (UTC)

Your deletion request for Vidyasagar, the Great Indian Educationist and Philanthropist/Chapter 1/Chapter 2Edit

Hi Rajasekhar1961. I noticed you had tagged Vidyasagar, the Great Indian Educationist and Philanthropist/Chapter 1/Chapter 2 for proposed deletion using {{delete}}, but did not list it on Wikisource:Proposed deletions. Proposed deletions require discussion and must be listed on that community discussion page in addition to tagging with the template. However, I wonder if you did not perhaps intend to request speedy deletion—that is, deletion without a prior discussion, for deletions that are uncontroversial—by using {{sdelete}} with a suitable rationale. The available grounds for a speedy deletion are listed in the deletion policy, but if you are the only contributor to the page in question, "author request" (G7) is usually the fastest and easiest (no need for elaborate assessment of whether the criteria is met). Please do let me know if you need assistance. --Xover (talk) 10:33, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
