Bright, Richard, M.D., created D.C.L. 9 June, 1853, M.D. Edinburgh University 13 Sep., 1812, F.R.S. 1821, licentiate College of Physicians 1816, fellow 1832, censor 1836 and 1839, etc., physician Guy's Hospital 1824-43, discoverer of the origin of dropsy, termed 'Morbus Brightii' or Bright's Disease, physician extraordinary to the Queen 1837 (son of Richard Bright, of Bristol, banker), died 16 Dec., 1858, father of James Franck Bright, master of University College.
