This pamphlet first publicised the story of the famous 18th-century French feral child Marie-Angélique Memmie Le Blanc. Some modern-day scholars have regarded this story as either wholly or partially fictional. The pamphlet is sometimes attributed in whole or in part to Hecquet's editor La Condamine, although La Condamine himself publicly denied authorship.

THE Mercury of France for the month of December 1731, makes mention of a young wild girl found in the wood of Songi near Chalons in Champagne. What follows is the most authentic account of her that I have been able to procure, as well from my conversations on different occasions with herself, as from the information of others who knew her before she began to speak French.
