  • Plenty of records for Lee J. Vance as publisher in New York from 1880s as a student through to 1930 census. Married to Lucie (1900 census), though unable to find marriage, and no evidence of children to marriage. Unable to find death. No indication of middle given name.

Uncertain from where the "Robert" comes, checking with editor. Works have no evidence of Robert, so possibly another source of information or other works. — billinghurst sDrewth 02:54, 24 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Billinghurst: For Robert: https://www.jstor.org/stable/1520539 and https://books.google.co.in/books?id=8sZcMQAACAAJ (the latter is the book version of this article, probably) -- Hrishikes (talk) 03:31, 24 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Just read the JSTOR article, and it lends no credence to the "Robert". It cites no records about the person, it is an essay that talks about the their writings, but no mention of the person in the person sense.

The second (at Google) says is a 2016 work, so if it is the author it is a reprint of the original, one would want to know more. It may be a centenary of an earlier publication, as if you look at international congress of viticulture. Every mention in sources contemporary to the person's life, either in published works, or in records of the time all say "Lee J. Vance"

To me it seems that the "Robert" is a more modern day addition, maybe even creation. I have doubts that a NYer born in 1862 is going to be called "Robert Lee ..." and if born any earlier, then that is an interesting prospect. There is no doubt that with all the State and directory records and publications that all state "Lee J. Vance" are aligned for this journalist cûm publisher. — billinghurst sDrewth 09:03, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

FindAGrave gives dates for Lee Vance as Apr 28 1861 - 8 Dec 1942. Confirmed to be the same person due to being buried next to his mother Elizabeth Vance St John (obituary here) and grandfather Col. Levi Hart. I'm pretty sure Lucille Florence Vance is his sister though, not his wife. —Beleg Tâl (talk) 22:11, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Full name "Lee James Vance" is confirmed in this trademark registration of the wordmark for Vance's publication The Beverage News. —Beleg Tâl (talk) 15:55, 24 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
