About the Author

edit

Note that Mr. Felt refers to himself in the third person while writing the preface.

  • “Believing that few of the works published are practical for the use of beginners, and feeling the necessity for a book which is at once accurate and comprehensive, the author, after many years of both careful study and close observation, and urged by a desire to present to the public a work that will relieve the student of the labor which a thorough examination of the many authorities on parliamentary law necessarily involves, offers this little volume.”
Orson B. Felt, Felt’s Parliamentary Procedure (1902), Preface, Page 3

While the exact name of "Orson B. Felt" has little to no records outside of the name being contributed as the author of their book, the name "Orson Benjamin Felt" is listed as the father of one "Orson Early Felt" on ancestry.com. This aligns with the location of publication of their one known published book, that being in Chicago, Illinois, and at a time when the author would have been alive (OBF: 1839 - 1911; Felt's Parliamentary Procedure: 1902). However, in said website, his professions are listed as "Superintendant - Linseed Oil Factory/butcher," which would not align with the topic of his own book, being on parliamentary procedure. It is not impossible that, due to how long they lived (up to 72 years old but around 63 at time of publication), they may have pursued a different career. However, none of this is concrete, as not enough is known about either of these people which could be used to show their relation. —VGPaleontologist
