OBITUARY.
THE DUCHESS OF RUTLAND

The Duchess of Rutland died at Homburg last evening. Her Grace. in company with the Duke of Rutland, the Marquess of Granby, her sons, Lord Edward Manners, M.P., Lord Cecil, and Lord Robert Manners, and her daughters, Lady Katherine and Lady Victoria, left for Homburg last Thursday week. It was thought that a month in that town would greatly benefit the health of the Duchess, who for some considerable time had been suffering from an affection of the heart. On Sunday, however, grave symptoms were apparent, and special advice was obtained. But the patient gradually grew weaker, and passed away peacefully last evening in the presence of her husband and family. Upon inquiry at the London residence of the Duke of Rutland last night it was ascertained that the first news of the death was received there in a brief telegram last evening, addressed to Lady Elizabeth Manners, the youngest daughter, and the only member of the family who is not on the Continent. The telegram, which was signed by Lord Cecil Manners stated simply that "the Duchess passed peacefully away this evening." So far, it is impossible to say what arrangements will be made for the funeral, but doubtless the remains will be brought back to this country and interred in the vault. which is situated within a quarter of a mile of Belvoir Castle. the country seat of the family. Janetta, Duchess of Rutland was married to the present Duke in 1862. She was the daughter of Mr. Thomas Hughan, of Airds, Kirkcudbright, N.B. This was the second marriage of the Duke of Rutland, and was contracted eight years after the death of his first wife.
