On the use of fonts to display long-s edit

I've set up this transcription to use the Junicode ss08 feature set to display long-s (ſ). This should be acceptable, provided that we assume that the long-s is the same character as short-s, just displayed as a different glyph. If that is the case, then even if there are some mismatches, these are acceptable, because the text itself is properly transcribed. If, however, this assumption is wrong, and long-s should be treated as a separate character to short-s (just as lower case s and capital S are treated as separate characters)—well, in that case it is easy to delete the CSS rule, and we should probably revisit our practice of permitting long-s to be transcribed as short-s. —Beleg Tâl (talk) 19:54, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
