Process - leave line breaks in until proofread

I find it easier (and quicker) to validate if the line breaks are left in. So would it be okay if we adopted this approach:

• leave line breaks in when proof reading
• remove when validating

Year of second edition

I changed the year of the second edition to 1916 (from 1900?) based on these sources:

• National Library of New Zealand catalogue entry
• Nature journal article:

Through South Westland: A Journey to the Haast and Mount Aspiring, New Zealand. Nature 98, 48 (1916). https://doi.org/10.1038/098048b0

Also, the first edition was published in 1911 - so the second edition needs to be after this...

Both the 1911 and 1916 editions have had the pages extracted from the Internet Archive and put into Flickr, hurrah. David has pointed out to the Internet Archive that what it calls the 1900 edition is actually the 1916 one. And the photos for this are actually black and white, not sepia-toned. I've created the category Category:Through South Westland, A journey to the Haast and Mount Aspiring New Zealand and will fix all the "1900" images so they go here. Then we can insert them into pages. Unfortunately they all have a name with (1900) in it and an obscure reference rather than a page number. We can try to get them renamed, or use as is. —Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 02:39, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

OK, I've gone through and either 1. reused images from the 1911 edition. 2. used images from the "1900" edition and categorised them properly or 3. dug up images from the Internet Archive scan and uploaded them to Commons, following the page number schema were were already using in the book for their file names. I've cropped down images to the photo frame, rotated and sharpened as needed, and converted to black-and-white. Some of the exisiting images were OK so I left them (though others could convert them to grayscale as well if they like.) Anyway, photos now done, just one badly-scanned map to fix if possible (may need to scan from a physical copy of the book.) —Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 21:28, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
